1. Introduction

Breakdown ("we," "us," or "our") operates the website breakdown.works (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our Service. By using Breakdown, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

2. Information We Collect

Account Information: When you sign up for Breakdown or become a Founding Member, we collect your email address and payment information (processed securely by Stripe — we never store your card details).

Content You Submit: URLs, files, text, and other creative works you submit for analysis. This content is processed by AI models to generate Methodology Cards and is stored in your library.

Usage Data: We collect anonymized usage data including pages visited, features used, and session duration to improve the Service.

Cookies: We use essential cookies for authentication and preferences (e.g., dark mode). We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the Service
  • Process transactions and send related information (receipts, confirmations)
  • Send you the Library Intelligence newsletter (if you opted in)
  • Respond to your requests and support inquiries
  • Monitor and analyze usage patterns to improve the product

4. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored securely using Supabase (hosted on AWS). Creative content submitted for analysis is processed by third-party AI providers (Anthropic, Google) solely to generate your Methodology Cards. We use industry-standard encryption for data in transit (TLS) and at rest. Payment processing is handled entirely by Stripe, which is PCI DSS compliant.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with:

  • Stripe — for payment processing
  • Supabase — for data storage
  • AI providers (Anthropic, Google) — for content analysis (your submitted content is processed but not used to train models)
  • Vercel — for hosting and serverless functions

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data and account
  • Export your Methodology Cards before account deletion
  • Opt out of marketing communications at any time

7. Data Retention

We retain your account data and Methodology Cards for as long as your account is active. If you cancel your subscription, your data remains accessible for 30 days. After that, you may request full deletion by contacting us. Email signup data is retained until you unsubscribe.

8. Children's Privacy

Breakdown is not directed to individuals under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn we have collected data from a child under 16, we will delete it promptly.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy on this page with a revised "Last updated" date. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
